You’re not in the way- A guide for wedding guests

“Oh sorry” a guest will always say when they think they have gotten in my way and will quickly jump out of the way.

While I get why people do this it is usually the exact opposite of what I am trying to capture.

I am a photo journalists and I shoot in a style that is undirected and unposed. True wedding photojournalists have an unobtrusive presence that allows them to capture un-staged moments without interfering in their creation or altering the scene. A wedding day includes so much more than just the couple getting married, your family will be there, your friends, your uncles kids who are making a fuss off to the side. All of this is part fo the day and its what I want to capture. Im not here to make your wedding day look flawless (although ill do my best), I am here to capture, real, unscripted moments that (hopefully) spark emotions when reflecting over them in years to come.

When this style was first introduced to the wedding industry, it was a breath of fresh air. Prior to that point, wedding photography seemed to be firmly entrenched in a standardised set of perfect cliché-looking shots and effects. Photojournalistic wedding photography is about the moments that aren’t staged or posed, it doesn’t involve a list or a template - it involves an organic, personal approach.

Taking photos in this way allows me to tell a story, it gives context and creates a narrative. It gives depth to an image and layers to the final product.

Couples want their wedding photography to tell a love story with every “character” in it.

If I want you to move I will ask you but please don’t step out of my way, you’re just as much as part of the the image as the couple.
