Let’s talk Wedding Non-Tradition!

White dress, sharp tux, cakes… who says you have to stick with the traditional style of wedding.

Don’t get me wrong, traditional weddings are not a bad thing at all! But there are also no rules that say you can’t put a unique twist on your big day. Weddings feel extra special when they are a unique blend of some of your own cultures and heritages.

Your wedding is first of all about you and your partner and the memories you intend to create for your big day.

So if you’re looking to ditch the traditional style of wedding, my goal is to fill your mind with some unique non-traditional wedding ideas that will blow your mind!

Check out some of my favourite examples below.

Find Yourself A Unique Wedding Venue

I bet you’re already tired of the usual wedding halls and reception venues. You can find an alternative that you love, somewhere that’s totally out of the world.

  • Set up a small backyard wedding

  • Hold your wedding at a distinctive location, such as an art gallery.

  • Choose to get married in a warehouse

  • Instead of a wedding celebration, have a barbecue.

  • Elope at the summer camp where you two initially met.

Go With a Non-Traditional Wedding Dress

Wouldn't it be fun to wear something other than a white wedding gown? Choose a colourful wedding dress or add some flare to make a statement.

  • Wear a customary item from your culture and upbringing.

  • Make your bouquet unique by including a handkerchief or a picture of a loved one.

  • Wear a retro outfit.

Put Together a Wedding Brunch

Brunch weddings are now becoming a thing. If the wedding cake is a waffle with endless mimosas on top, bonus points! During a day wedding, you can also go with non-alcoholic bar options available.

Allow Guests to Pick Their Looks

Are you looking for a really fun way to make your wedding party happy? You can allow all attendants who wish to wear dresses to choose their outfits. Don’t restrict them to bridesmaid-only styles.

Pro Tip: If you are concerned about the aesthetics of your photos, you can ask that they stick to a specific colour palette, and use monochrome flowers to unify the shots.

Create an Informal Wedding Menu

Nothing beats comfort food! Create a casual wedding menu and replace the leafy green salads with dishes that your guests will enjoy. From gourmet pizza to pig in a blanket, switch things up and go for a more indulgent menu.

Thrill Your Guests With Unexpected Entertainment

Surprise entertainment is an excellent way to leave a lasting impression on your guests. Think beyond the band and add live entertainment like Celtic drummers, mixologists, an interactive photo booth etc. Your guests will truly be wowed by these!

Weddings are deeply personal whether it is in creating an informal wedding venue or finding yourself a unique wedding venue. Weddings are about creating lasting memories with your close friends and family members. Regardless of your taste, style and budget, there’s something for everyone. Have fun and decide what suits you best!
